Self-Expression Within Everyday Spaces
SHU TO / is a creative label founded in Tokyo in 2013 by designer Yuki Iwatake. With a core theme of “self-expression within everyday spaces,” the brand explores the intersection of design, art, and lifestyle. In 2024, SHU TO launched the art label HUNGRYSCISSORS, specializing in art pieces that are embodied by furniture and everyday objects. Blending dramatic, disruptive aesthetics with a strong sense of individuality, the label brings a new dimension to spatial design—where furniture doesn’t just furnish a space, but expresses it. HUNGRYSCISSORS also engages in spatial styling for architectural and interior projects, incorporating bold creations developed within the label. Through the upcycling of leftover materials from these projects, it proposes sustainable, story-rich environments. HUNGRYSCISSORS is an art label born from a desire to explore self-expression not only through the body but through space itself. Launched in 2024 by Yuki Iwatake, the label creates one-of-a-kind art that furniture and objects “wear,” blurring the line between function and expression. Rooted in the visual language of fashion, the label reimagines interior spaces as living canvases—each piece a statement, each material a story. Rejecting conventional aesthetics, HUNGRYSCISSORS draws inspiration from fashion, books, film, anime, nature, sculpture, and traditional craftsmanship. The result is a hybrid creative practice that upcycles beautiful remnants from architectural projects, transforming them into bold, sharp, and emotionally charged works that redefine the boundaries of space and self.
